The legendary Masai Mara Game Reserve ranks right up there with Tanzania's Serengeti National Park and South Africa's Kruger National Park in terms of the world's finest wildlife sanctuaries.
The wildlife of the Masai Mara Game reserve is concentrated along the marshes and the Rivers which attracts the Big Cats forming large prides of Lions and Cheetahs that are the pride of a Mara Safari enthusiast. A typical safari to the Mara starts early morning in a custom built safari vehicle and normally follows trails mostly frequented by Grant’s Gazelle, Zebra, Cape Buffalo, Elephant Cheetah, Hippos and crocodiles along the River banks. The Migration Masai mara safari to Kenya is the best during the months of July, August, September and October. The migrating Wildebeests have during these months usually cross the rising Mara River in search of the mineral rich sprouting grasses on the Kenya Side. Crocodiles are usually active along the crossing points feeding on Zebra, Topi and Buffalo.
Ballooning safaris are also available at an extra cost. The mara safari would then be conducted from the air as millions of wildlife is viewed from the Balloon before guests landing in the bush for a champagne breakfast.

Amboseli is renowned for its elephant populations and large herds, including some impressively tusked bulls are drawn to a series of large, lush swamplands. But the most impressive giant of all is Mt Kilimanjaro. Africa’s largest mountain lies just over the border in Tanzania, but the most impressive views of its snow-capped peak are to be found in Amboseli. The early light of dawn turns the mountain a dark hue of purple, and its snows into an ethereal pink. The sight of Kilimanjaro high above herds of elephant crossing the plains of Amboseli is a timeless African image.
This area is home to many Maasai communities, centered around the Amboseli National Park. The park is 400 sq kms, with its southern boundary along the Tanzanian border. The park is home to more than just Elephants, and herds of wildebeest, zebra and impala graze on the open plains.. There are areas of acacia forest that make for good birding, and are home to many small mammals. Cheetah are also often sighted here.

The Samburu region is the best place to find several endemic Northern species, including Gerenuk, the Reticulated Giraffe, and Grevy's Zebra. The forests along the river banks are home to many birds, including local species such as the Palm Nut Vulture and the Vinaceous Dove. These forests are also home to many Leopards, often seen at dusk. The sight of one of these beautiful and elusive creatures is always a rare treat.
The Reserve is within the lands of the colourful Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai, and harbours a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in any numbers. These include Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe and the Beisa oryx all species found only north of the equator. The long-necked gerenuk is a graceful antelope which spends much of its time in a bi-pedal stance seeking succulence among the withered scrub which dots this harsh terrain. Scenically and faunally dramatic, for most of the year Samburu is sere under the unsympathetic equatorial sun. But relief comes from the wide swathe of the Ewaso Ngiro River which rises some hundreds of kilometres to the west on the foothills of the Aberdares and which vanishes beyond Samburu in the recesses of the Lorian swamp.

Tsavo as a whole consists of 10 million acres of pure wilderness, incorporating savannah, ranges and hills, acacia and montane forest, and an extensive river system. On safari here you will see large herds of Elephant, their hides often a luminous red with dust, as well as Lion, Buffalo, Eland, Giraffe Impala, Kudu and possibly Rhinoceros.
Nakuru means "Dust or Dusty Place" in Maasai language. Lake Nakuru National Park, close to Nakuru town, was established in 1961. It started off small, only encompassing the famous lake and the surrounding mountainous vicinity. Now it has been extended to include a large part of the savannahs.
Thousands of flamingo, joined into a massive flock, fringe the shores of this soda lake. A pulsing pink swathe of life that carpets the water, the flamingo are a breathtaking sight.
The lake has become world famous for these birds, who visit the lake to feed on algae that forms on the lake bed. They move back and forth, feeding and occasionally and spectacularly taking to flight, filling the sky over the lake with colour. The lake is extremely variable in size- changing from 5 up to 30 sq kms in area. Nakuru has more than just flamingos. This is a major National Park and an important sanctuary for Rhino. Both Black and White Rhino are found here, and are often seen resting under acacias by the Lake shore.
Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, lying north west of Nairobi, outside the town of Naivasha.
The lake and its surrounds are rich in natural bounty, and the fertile soils and water supply have made this one of Kenya's prime agricultural regions. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow fever tree. These forests abound with bird life, and Naivasha is known as a world class birding destination.
Hell's Gate National Park lies beside the lake. This Park was named for its pair of massive red tinged cliffs framing a geothermically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs. The park is home to a profusion of plains game and birdlife. Walking is permitted, making it ideal for hiking, biking, and rock climbing. Boat trips on the lake are widely available, and is a great way to spend an afternoon or morning. Sunsets are always stunning, with the haunting call of a Fish Eagle high over the Lake bringing the day to a perfect end.
Baringo is at the threshold of Northern Kenya, and its freshwaters are an oasis in the arid plains. This is the traditional home of the Njemps tribe, a unique people who are the only pastoral, cattle herding, tribe who also fish.
At the lakes heart is Ol Kokwe Island, a stark rocky island that is home to Njemps villages and a well appointed camp. This is an excellent base for exploring the lake, with boat trips ideal for bird and hippo spotting. Baringo is an ideal stopover on a safari to Northern Kenya.
MEDICAL:
Like most tropical countries, it is always advisable to take extra precautions when visiting Kenya.
Malaria: This is usually top on the list of visitors’ worries, and prevention goes a long way towards keeping you protected. Although it is believed that the anopholes mosquito (the species that carries malaria) hunts only at night, make sure that all exposed areas are well slathered in insect repellent at all times. Sleep under a net – there are some very good travelling mosquito nets available now, but budget travelers are well-advised to bring their own since the nets at most low-end guesthouses have holes or are invariably too small. If you’re sleeping in a tent that doesn’t have a net, spray insect repellent inside, close the flap, and leave for a few minutes.
Make sure to visit your doctor to get a prescription for the anti-malarial drugs that best suit your health and condition – there are some very good ones available on the market now, but tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding. If you feel achy, have chills and hot flushes, headaches, or a fever either during your trip or up to two weeks afterwards, visit a doctor immediately to be tested for malaria. If your symptoms persist, don’t hesitate in seeking a second opinion. A malaria test only takes about fifteen minutes and involves a simple finger prick, and it’s available around the country. Treatment is widely available and recovery times are fast, provided that you get diagnosed as soon as you notice any possible symptoms. After all this advice, it’s worth noting that not every mosquito has malaria and that if you’re conscientious and take precautions, it’s unlikely that you will be exposed.
It is also advisable to pack your own small medical kit with basic remedies uch as antacids, painkillers, anti-histamines and cold remedies. You will also need anti-diarrhoeal medication such as Imodium (adults only); and oral rehydration sachets such as Electrolade, especially if travelling with children.
Vaccinations:These vaccinations are commonly recommended when traveling to any African country:
- Tetanus
- Diphtheria
- Polio
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Yellow Fever
- Rabies
- Meningitis
Food and water: It’s best to drink bottled water when traveling through Kenya – numerous brands are widely available and served in all restaurants and lodges. Steer clear of ice, raw vegetables, and salads when eating at street restaurants. High-end lodges and restaurants will clean their produce in antiseptic solution, but should you feel wary about anything on your plate, leave it. Try to avoid eating in empty restaurants – the food may have been sitting out for some time – and order your meat well done. On the coast, seafood and fish are usually fresh, but again, make sure everything is well-cooked. While on holiday, it’s always better to err on the side of caution.
ENTRY VISA:
All tourists are required to carry a valid Kenya visa to enter the country. The Visa can be applied in the United States or can be applied upon your arrival in Kenya. You can download the visa form which can be found on our website.
MONEY:
The unit of currency is the Kenya shilling (KSh).It’s best to carry as little cash as possible when travelling to avoid further inconvenience if anything should be lost or stolen.
That said, major currencies (like the US Dollar, the English Pound, and the Euro) are easily changed in large towns, although US Dollars are sometimes preferred.
Before departure, travelers are advised to convert any excess Kenya shillings into foreign currency at a bank or bureau de change before departure. Departure taxes can be paid in local or foreign currency. Anyone wishing to take more than 500,000 Kenya Shillings out of the country will require written authorization from the Central Bank.
TRAVEL INSURANCE:
Precautions are a necessary part of staying healthy, and while you will of course make every effort to stay healthy and safe during your trip, it’s always wise to plan for emergencies. International travel insurance and emergency medical evacuation plans are available for purchase before you even leave home, so be sure to provide for yourself in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
It is important to have a medical policy that will insure you while travelling, and cover any theft, loss, or medical emergencies you may experience while away from home.
Check your policy’s evacuation criteria and notify your travel agent of any necessary details.
WHAT TO PACK:
Clothing: The temperature in Kenya varies from one area to the other; hence this should be kept in mind when packing. You should pack according to your travel plans and destinations you plan to visit. You should also be careful not to over pack and exceed luggage limits; especially if you plan on taking domestic flights within regions.

Photocopy of your passport (incase original is lost or stolen)
4 copies of your passport size picture

This vantage positioning of the lodge has made it a stopover for many safari adventures, nature lovers and holiday makers who are assured of sampling Kenya's wildlife attractions that continuously beat a track to the three water holes sunk by the lodge below the cliff.
Nestled in the heart of elephant country, Voi Wildlife Lodge is located in the Savannah grasslands of Tsavo East, Kenya, just 5km off the main highway connecting the Capital Nairobi to Mombasa.
Voi Wildlife Lodge is situated on a 25-acre site on the boundary of Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya's largest game parks with spectacular views of nearby volcanic outcrops, such as the Kasigau, Sagalla and Mwakingali Hills. Designed to blend unassumingly into the surrounding environment, the lodge boasts a natural waterhole often attracting big game, including elephant, lion, cheetah, buffalo as well as a rich variety of birdlife.
Voi Wildlife Lodge is ideally placed for visitors wishing to combine a 'bush' and 'beach' safari holiday in Kenya with its accessibility to Tsavo National Park and its close proximity to the coast. With temperatures in the day average 25 degrees Celsius and cooler nights, Tsavo East offers an ideal climate in which to relax, indulge in the many facilities on offer at the lodge and enjoy one of the world's leading biodiversity strongholds.
Voyager Ziwani Safari Camp is located on a private 30 000 acre farm on the edge of Tsavo West National Park. The camp sits on a secluded dam on the Sante River - home to turtles, crocodiles and hippos.
You can choose from a host of exciting safari activities including game drives in Tsavo West, night drives to view hippos and nocturnal game, walks with highly qualified naturalists, and boating among crocs and turtles on Ziwani Dam. This Voyager Safari Camp also offers trips to the twin volcanic lakes of Chala and Jipe.
